Speaking

I am Not a Motivational Speaker!!

I am not a motivational speaker! I am an expert on The Business of People and corporate behaviour who presents intriguing Business to Business keynote speeches leaving the audience with real insight and immediately applicable content.

Not only is the term "motivational speaker" an ambiguous and outdated concept, it can be applied to almost anyone - whether they deliver real content, or not. These speakers will make you act silly, stand on your chair, clap your hands and shout "yes, yes, yes!"

Motivational Speakers are like a hot bath. It’s great when you get in, but the warm water gets cold quickly and then you need to top it up again. This of course works well for the speaker who will want to come back every four months to speak to you again.

Besides, I know that a speaker, manager, or mentor cannot motivate anybody. True motivation comes from within. I will never promise to motivate your staff, to push them to do the impossible.

What I guarantee though is that I will influence what your people are motivated to do – and that I will give everybody the tools to Self-Motivate, should they choose to do so! I strike an important balance between real content (delegates will leave having learnt something they can immediately implement), humour and interaction during custom-crafted speaking engagements. I deliver so much content during speaking engagements that they are frequently the catalyst to further, ongoing training.

Herding Cats: People, Teams and Performance in today's workplace.

“Herding Cats” is an interactive and fast paced keynote presentation delivered in 60 minutes that shares what every company wants to know. How do they manage a young, globally savvy workforce in todays global marketplace. I'll show you the SECRET to dealing with your employees and your customers.

Research into the future of work and the way business will be conducted in the near future points to the fact that we are fast moving away from an economy driven by knowledge and information to a business world driven by relationships and experiences. In fact, over the last 40 years we have rapidly evolved from a Commodity Economy, through economies driven by financial achievement and Knowledge acquisition.

Today the business world is driven by an Experience Economy. Employees are no longer motivated by money, big houses and fast cars. Today they will have 14 jobs before they’re 35! They are motivated by freedom, flexibility, and meaningful experiences. Both at work and at play!

Customers are no longer content with just owning your product. They want to experience it. They want to feel valued through the mere act of dealing with your company. They demand a world that is constantly changing, always available and built to suit them personally.

This Keynote presentation provides not only an overview of the latest research; it also leaves the audience with Erik’s S.E.C.R.E.T - 6 “must-haves” in order to embrace the Experience Economy. Erik challenges current assumptions and audiences leave with relevant food for thought.

It is suited to business people from all industries and across all levels of the organisation – from Management to Call Centre employees, and particularly addresses the need for entrepreneurship. It embraces an international selection of real business examples and provides immediately actionable insights into how companies can better engage their employees and customers.

Fresh from sharing the stage with Charles Sirois, the Canadian Telecoms billionaire, Erik’s 13 years experience in presenting and understand his audiences allow him to deliver a carefully crafted presentation at different levels of any organisation. His ideas are inspiring, memorable and motivating and have resulted in presentations to no less than 15 000 people annually over the last ten years.

Lessons From Lance

Listen to the words of Lance Armstrong when he refers to the 2nd of October 1996 when he was told he had Testicular Cancer. . .

“The day it all changed. The day I learned to never take anything for granted. The day I truly learned the importance of a team. The day I learned to take charge of my life.”

  • Would you like to know how you can rocket your business, team and career into higher orbit the Lance Armstrong way?
  • Do you want to discover the strategies Lance Armstrong used to evoke higher performance?
  • Do you yearn to awaken the champion in you?
  • Do you have the desire to let your real power surge to the fore and create the life you long for?
  • Do you want to be boosted ever higher the Lance Armstrong way?

You can… based on the principles Lance Armstrong uses to drive his team to helping him win more Tours de France than any other cyclist in history.

From 1999 to 2005 one person, surrounded by a team of 8 incredibly talented and committed athletes, dominated the world’s toughest cycling event. For 7 years Lance Armstrong was undefeated over an ever changing 3 500km route around the French countryside.

Six years of agony, ecstasy, pain and elation form the basis of this 60-90 minute presentation. We explore the attributes of success that took the youngest ever World Road Race Champion through a desperate fight with Testicular Cancer to 7 consecutive victories in the Tour de France. Lance Armstrong has had to employ strategies in Leadership, Teamwork, Communication, Problem-solving, Marketing, Dealing with Disasters, Planning, Training, Discipline and Success. We look carefully at how Lance has successfully dealt with these challenges – the same ones we face in our own busy corporate existence.

Here’s what it’s all about: When Lance Armstrong was diagnosed with Cancer in October 1996, his cycling career was doomed. With less than a 20% chance of surviving the cancer which riddled his testicle, lungs and brain, Lance did it. He beat the odds but in 1997 when he wanted to return to professional cycling, he found no team would sign him. He convinced Thomas Wiesel to invest $8 million along with the US Postal Service to start a new team. Prior to Lance’s cancer in 1996, he had started the Tour de France, but only finished once!

In 1999 Lance and his new team lined up at the start of the Tour de France – and Lance won. Seven years on, he’s still to lose it, and set an unbelievable record in the process. No other person has ever won 7 Tours. Lance won his first Tour in 1999 in the fastest average speed ever! Since then he has never lost it! In 2005 he became the oldest Tour champion at age 34 and then retired undefeated! Only to come out of retirement now, in 2009, in order to race again, create publicity for his Livestrong cancer campaigns - and to possibly win an 8th Tour de France!!

You can discover his methods. You can capture his secrets. You can use his strategies to rocket your career, team and business into orbit. I can show you how . . .
