I know it is tough! As an amateur athlete you have to balance work, family and often friends with your training and sport “commitments”. The only way to overcome this – apart from becoming a pro – is to manage your commitments. In other words, you need to commit your mind and your body to one thing at a time. When you’re at work, WORK. When you’re at sport, leave everything else behind! This focus is the toughest part because I often find that my mind wanders between the two. I have some of my best business ideas while training – particularly swimming.
This happens because there’s not much to concentrate on whilst doing endless laps of the pool so as my mind enters a state of relaxation, I become more creative and more adept at solving problems. For the most part though, you want to be a pig in every part of your life. Pigs are totally committed to the bacon on your plate. The chicken is only involved!
