Those of you who follow me on Twitter
, or Facebook
, might have noticed the IdeaFriday hash tag I created. In case you’re living in a cave in Afghanistan and don’t know about Twitter (or, heaven forbid, Facebook) it looks like this: #ideafriday. Now even you’ve seen it, and you’re wondering what it’s all about. Let me briefly explain.
In my 15 years as a corporate performance facilitator and speaker
, I have encountered thousands of people (literally) who have many great ideas, but never have the environment or opportunity to incubate these ideas. If you’re like most people I know, you have these ideas at 11H37 on some idle Tuesday night while you’re trying to fall asleep. So one of two things happen. 1) You get up out of bed, trip over the cat, switch on the light, write it down, get beaten by your spouse for waking her up, get back into bed, realise you’ve left the light on, you get up again…. get the idea? Taking this course of action one too many times eventually leads to the second option. You just lie in bed, deciding to write the great idea down the next morning. Of course when you wake up, you can’t remember what the great idea was you had last night.
Even when you do remember the concept, they normally die a slow and agonising death in the depths of your mind because you don’t know how to “feed” them or get them to grow.
#ideafriday happens every Friday (if I’m in town – “town” being Johannesburg) between 12 and 2 (times may vary by 30 mins or so) at Primi Extreme at The Design Quarter in Fourways. They have come on board because they realise the value in ideas, and as a fresh approach to creating a truly African eating experience, they sponsor the coffee.
I’ll sit around, writing, and doing stuff, and whoever wants to come around and share thoughts, chat about ideas etc is welcome. You bring great ideas and stimulating conversation and I’ll get coffee! I don’t expect anything in return – unless your idea makes a couple of million – kidding. I promise not to steal your ideas, but to help you build on them if I can. I promise to ask you tough questions to get you thinking, to play devil’s advocate to get you to think critically!!
So all you have to do is follow me on Twitter or Facebook, lookout for the #ideafriday tag and join me for a cuppa!
Hope to see you soon.
