“Action should culminate in wisdom.”

The second worst thing that can happen to an athlete is to have bad race. There will be days when nothing seems to gel, when your legs are heavy, when you just don’t feel like it. Two years ago I had one of “those” days after my wife got me doing some DIY in the garden involving paving stones the day before a race. That was the longest 110km EVER on a bike.

The worst thing that can happen though is not learning from your actions. So many people go from one experience to another without actively making an effort to learn from it. Ensure that every event you participate in is followed by an “after-action review”. This way you can eliminate repetitive mistakes and, more importantly, keep doing what works. Good actions, breed good habits, which breed consistent good results.
